From their early days as a progressive group to their high-flying power-ballad days of the 80's, Journey remains one of the most popular bands from the AOR period. Their balanced attack of Steve Perry's dynamic vocals, Neal Schon's guitar work, and Jonathan Cain's keyboarding consistently proved successful, especially on such hits as "Don't Stop Believin'," "Separate Ways (Worlds Apart)," and "Be Good To Yourself." Their core lineup of Schon, Cain, and Perry are rounded out by bassist Ross Valory, and famed fusion drummer Steve Smith. In recent years, the band has dealt with some lineup changes. Steve Perry left the band in 1998. Steve Smith left afterwards to continue his jazz career.

Lay It Down Lyrics

Journey

Lookin round for a feelin
I love the rhythm and blues
The place was rockin and reelin
I thought Id shake me loose
The band was pumpin motown
Lord how they could play
The girls a-started singing
Rock the night away
By the midnight hour
They couldve raised the dead
They were takin it higher
Higher, higher, higher, ringin in my head
Lay it down, lay it down
Lay it down, lay it down
Whisky, wine and women
They get me though the night
I aint lookin for trouble
I aint lookin to fight
A little vertical persuasion
Would do me right
What Im really needin
Ah, double shot tonight.
By the midnight hour
We were on our way
She was takin it higher
Higher, higher, higher, then I heard say
(chorus)
